Alison Thewliss MP backs project to tackle digital isolation for deaf Glaswegians

Alison Thewliss MP is backing a project run by the charity Action on Hearing Loss Scotland which aims to reduce digital exclusion experienced by older people with hearing loss.

Online Today!, which is funded by Big Lottery Fund Scotland, is available to older people who are deaf or have hearing loss in Glasgow Central how to go online, set up an email address and stay secure when using the Internet.

Two-hour digital training sessions can be delivered in community venues to groups of up to 10 people and one-to-one sessions can also be arranged.

Alison Thewliss MP said: “Technology can help make everyone’s daily lives much easier but Action on Hearing Loss Scotland have found that many older people with hearing loss often don’t have experience of using the latest devices or know how to get themselves set up online. I encourage people with hearing loss in Glasgow Central to sign up for Online Today! and start learning how to get the most out of your smartphone, tablet or eReader.”

Delia Henry, Director of Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, said: “Our digital training sessions introduce people who are deaf or have hearing loss to help build their confidence of using the latest technology so that they can stay connected with friends and family. We would be delighted to run more sessions across Glasgow so please get in touch if you would like to get involved.”
